Student work - Middle / High school
My teaching philosophy aligns to my goals as an artist; I facilitate the creation of authentic, engaging, and powerful art. I create access and opportunity for my students, rather than directly dictating what they do, how they create, or what they are expressing. From an emotionally safe space, I foster individuality and self-expression, working hard to know my artists and understand what they need to feel courageous and engaged in their work.
I believe that it is an artist’s job to speak about the world around them and use creation to enhance their world. I work hard to help my student artists become problem solvers, active community members, and to see failure as an inevitable outcome that comes from taking creative risk.
Project Based Learning is a personal passion. Through my students work you will see countless connections to science, social studies, math, and ELA.
